Wine Magazine’s inaugural Sweet Wine Report was released 21 August 2018 with the focus being on 1) Natural Sweet; 2) Noble Late Harvest; 3) Straw Wine; 4) Hanepoot and 5) Muscadel. Wines were tasted blind (labels out of sight) by the three-person panel with scoring done according to the 100-point quality scale.
Dornier Froschkönig Natural Sweet Chenin Blanc 2016 was awarded 92 points taking first place in the category of Natural Sweet Wines.
Fermentation and Aging Stems of the bunches were pinched on the vine and left to desiccate for 30 – 60 days. The grapes were pressed in an old wooden basket press and the juice was fermented and matured for 18 months in barrel. The nose shows hay, marmalade, honey, nuts and spice. The palate is rich, thick textured and very flavourful. Great depth of fruit and excellent freshness before a lingering finish.
Dornier Froschkönig Natural Sweet Chenin Blanc 2016 is available to purchase at The Wine Lounge at Dornier for R217.00 per bottle. Production 2600 bottles.
